The Mid-Continent Oceanographic Institute is excited to host our first-ever Personal Statement Day! Inspired by the work of 826 National and their successful Personal Statement events, we will be supporting Twin Cities juniors and seniors with writing personal statements for college applications and cover letters for job applications.
At MOI, we value writing of all varieties. We often focus on creative writing, but strong writing skills in any genre are vital to future success. We also know that writing skills improve the most with careful feedback. Sadly, Minnesota schools have high ratios of students to guidance counselors, so Twin Cities students rarely have the individualized feedback and support they need as they prepare for their futures.
That’s where Personal Statement Day comes in. On Saturday, October 28 from 10 am to 2 pm, volunteers from all over the Twin Cities will descend upon Roosevelt High School to help students brainstorm, write, and revise their essays and letters. Volunteers will receive an hour-long training from the MOI Crew on the day of the event, and students will each get a free, hour-long workshop session with a trained volunteer.
Oh, and did we mention that MOI will provide coffee and treats for students and volunteers?
