MOI moves into our new home and opens our Writers' Room!
Letter from the Executive Director
Dear MOI community,
We are moving into our new home in South Minneapolis! Please update your address for MOI to 1915 E 22nd St., Minneapolis, MN 55404.
Want a sneak peak into our new space? Watch the video below of me giving a tour of our new youth writing center as we finish up construction.
There are lots of ways for you to get involved with MOI as we settle into our new home! Here are three ways you can support our work:
- If you’d like to volunteer time, look out for upcoming opportunities to help us put the finishing touches on our space before students arrive this fall.
- Check out MOI’s registry for our new space and our new Writers’ Room at South High School. Will you help us fill our writing labs with bookshelves, chairs, and maybe even an aquarium?
- MOI has a back-to-school campaign to meet a $10,000 matching gift. Give to our campaign today!
See you soon at our open house in September!

MOI is hiring for a Program Director! Read this goodbye blog post from our Program Director of three years, Cross, and help us find the next member of our crew. We are looking for an individual who will help us grow our programming as we settle into our new location in South Minneapolis this fall. Candidates with a passion for writing, youth development, and nonprofit management are strongly encouraged to apply!
School is back in session for Minneapolis students on August 27, and MOI is launching our Writers’ Room at South High School this fall. Open to the 1800+ students at South, the Writers’ Room will offer dedicated writing support from MOI staff and volunteers. Watch this video to learn more about our newest staff member leading the project, Sam O., and her vision for the space.
In the News
Earlier this month, MOI was a partner organization for an amazing event held in San Francisco—the International Congress of Youth Voices. The event brought together young activists and writers from around the world. Read the Manifesto of these youth leaders here.
Know someone who’d make a great addition to our crew this fall? MOI is hiring interns for the upcoming semester! MOI interns get the chance to work directly with students, partner with staff and volunteers on unique projects, and gain valuable insight into the local nonprofit scene. Apply to be an MOI intern today!
Summer’s almost over! After-School Homework Help student Adnan reflects on the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the season:
My favorite season is summer.
It’s not like winter, it doesn’t feel like a bummer.
In the summer I get to feel a grip of a ball.
Also I get to see the bright sun.
In summer you don’t hear the leaves fall.
In summer you get to smell the fresh air.
Summer is the part of the year you
get to taste whatever you want.
