Student Writing: "Oscar's Reasons"

Oscar's Reasons

Oscar, grade 4

A good reason to write a poem is

because you make up funny sentences.

Because you wonder why you eat.

Because you wonder why we like Gatorade.

Because you want to be a doctor.

Because you want to play.

Because you want to sleep.

Because you want to say bye.

Oscar is a 4th grader who attends MOI's After-School Homework Help program, where he works with our Writer-in-Residence after finishing his homework to write poetry and prose. The completed works are compiled into an end-of-semester chapbook. This piece is from One Pencil, One Student, which released in May 2018.
